Case Study - Upper Severn Estuary Saltmarsh
Project Summary
This project will restore approximately 150 ha of nature-rich saltmarsh at the Awre
Peninsula in the Severn Estuary, helping to reverse the significant loss of saltmarsh
habitat caused by historic land-use changes and coastal squeeze. The restoration will
support specialist salt-tolerant species, increase biodiversity, enhance carbon capture,
and create a healthy, functioning habitat within the wider estuarine ecosystem, while
also providing opportunities to research its environmental, economic, and community
benefits.
