The Starston Beck has historically been physically
modi昀椀ed by straightening and deepening of the
channel and by the construc琀椀on of impoundments
such as weirs. This project has been implemented
to improve the ecology and natural func琀椀oning of
the river at this loca琀椀on.
Outputs:
350 m new 2-stage channel bypassing historic
weir
150 m of in-channel restora琀椀on to improve the
gradient and pro昀椀le of the channel, crea琀椀ng a
more natural and connected watercourse whilst
drowning out two small weirs
Large sluice removed and replaced with a
natural gravel bed
Glebe Meadow site re-pro昀椀led to improve
public access to watercourse
Crea琀椀on of a new scrape in the noodplain
Downstream weir before removal
